Don Ackerman will sign "Who Runs This Town? A Political History of Schenectady and its Governments."
Based on detailed research at the Schenectady County Historical Society and the Schenectady County Board of Elections, Ackerman, a political activist for more than 60 years, highlights Schenectady politics from 1661 through 2020. The book features the rise and fall of a number of interesting political figures. Among Ackerman’s favorites were Schenectady’s only woman mayor, Karen B. Johnson, and Schenectady’s only socialist mayor, George Lunn.
Ackerman is a retired social studies teacher who also served as a member of the Schenectady County Legislature as well as chair of the Schenectady County Democratic Party. He also served as a member of the New York State Democratic Committee for 40 years.
